Advocacy learning

Hair/Makeup & Travel Preferences

  • Send Maggie a message if you’d prefer to do your own hair and/or makeup, and specify your choice
  • Send Maggie a message if you’re considering driving to the airport and parking instead of using the Uber code
    • Note: This is mainly for those who live far from their airport. We’ll compare costs to choose the most economical option

Travel & Logistics (New Information)

What to pack

Comfy Casual Attire:
For non-filming activities, bring comfortable clothes you can relax in. We’ll be capturing some B-roll throughout the weekend, so there’s a chance you may appear on camera even on non-filming days. Dress code: comfy casual—jeans are absolutely fine!

Filming Outfit:
Wear something that feels like you. Solid colors look best on camera. Please avoid:

    • Bright red (hardest color to replicate on video)
    • Tight patterns (pinstripes, houndstooth, small prints)
    • Dangly jewelry (interferes with audio)

Layers:
The forecast is in the 50s this weekend. Pack layers you can easily add or remove to stay comfortable.

Uber Code

You’ll receive your Uber voucher code via email. The voucher covers 5 full rides. Please link it to your Uber account and use it for:

    • Rides to/from your local airport
    • Rides between Austin–Bergstrom International Airport and the hotel or VRBO (depending on your arrival time)

If you have any trouble with the code or need help linking it, just let me know—we’re happy to assist.

If you haven’t already, please download the Uber app and create an account.

Additional Items

    • Travel and hotel check-in details (including early check-in info)
    • A link to submit your dinner selection for our Thursday welcome dinner
    • Please also double-check your travel information and let me know if anything has changed.

Arrival

When you arrive in Austin, you’ll have two options for how to spend your time before our evening activities begin:

Option 1: Head to the Hotel First

You can take an Uber from the airport straight to the hotel to see whether your room is ready.

If your room is ready:

  • You’re welcome to check in, settle in, and either
    relax at the hotel,
  • Uber over to the VRBO to hang out, or
drop your bags and go explore Austin.

If your room isn’t ready:

  • You can leave your luggage at the front desk and choose to: explore Austin, or
  • Uber to the VRBO to relax, have lunch, or unwind.

If you’d like to explore, our local Austin folks recommend starting on South Congress—a great walkable area with shops, food, and iconic Austin spots.

Starting point suggestion: Allen’s Boots – 1522 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704

Option 2: Go Straight to the VRBO

If you prefer, you can Uber directly from the airport to the VRBO as soon as you arrive in Austin.

Once you arrive, you’re welcome to: enjoy lunch (we’ll have food available), get some downtime, catch up on work, or just relax and settle in.

While you’re there, we can call the hotel for you to check whether your room is ready. There’s plenty of space at the VRBO for you to get comfortable until it’s time to head to the hotel or to our welcome dinner.

Filming Prep (Very Important!)

If you’re nervous about filming—or simply want to practice—we highly recommend booking a practice session with Jackie.

This helps you get comfortable on camera and ensures your story is polished and ready.
